Great question! If you remember anything during 2020, it must be about toilet paper, right? Well some farms in the fall in the United States start finding their birds had bird flu. Well once one bird gets it, you have to decontaminate your entire flock. Which turns out to be a complete loss. The unfortunate part is our media likes to make such a big deal about things that it makes everyone start freaking out. Which then creates people running to the store and over buying unnecessary items. It is interesting to see people buying out stores of eggs because in reality what is one person going to do with that many. LOL
In other words, price gauging is a thing and many people still think eggs should be 99 cents for a dozen. When we first started selling eggs, in 2020, I sold our eggs for $3/dozen. A couple years later I moved it to $4/dozen. Two years later to January 2025, I moved our price to $5/dozen. As our economy fluctuates, so do prices in everything else. However, I am concerned how other farms think $9 or $12 a dozen is acceptable to charge. I don't sell eggs to make a profit. I sell them because fresh eggs are so much better for you than the medicated, mass produced egg farms. I especially enjoy selling them because I like to educate others on farming and getting essential nutrition right from your back yard.
